I've been researching Tawny Owls (Strix aluco) which are absolutely fascinating creatures. There have been many studies conducted on them in regard to sex-ratios which is a subject I have been interested in a very long time ever since I learned about the Trivers-Willard Hypothesis. What's most interesting about them is that different populations appear to have different sex ratios (which are perhaps dependent on diet) despite being closely genetically related. This suggests that the primary sex-ratio is more variable than I had originally thought. I never thought that research conducted for the fic would be useable for research I do for work. It makes me feel less like the story is a waste of time/resources.

My betas and I have been very busy so it will probably be a few more days before the next chapter is posted. My friend Jessica was reading beautiful literature like Moby Dick instead of my story, so I wrote this little piece to get her back on track. It is complete porn so it is OOC and ignores the mechanics. I haven't had it checked over, so ignore (or correct) any mistakes!

I cheated. I wasn't letting myself post this until I finished a later chapter so that I wouldn't fall behind. That chapter was coming on too slowly, so I took a very long chapter and moved 1/3 of it to a new chapter so now I am ahead! \o/

I've beaten Half Blood Prince!! I've written 170,525 words for my fic while HBP is 168,923. The longest chapter so far is 18 with 6,867. The shortest is 34 with 3,498 but I'll probably change it a bit more.

This is the longest thing I've ever written x.x If I had known it was going to be so long, I wouldn't have started to write it. But I am completely hooked. Sometimes it is a bit of a struggle, especially during the slow parts, but most of the time I just write. Last night Harry completely took over and did something I hadn't seen happening there but it was awesome. I love it when they take over, it doesn't happen nearly enough. I was crying and my roommate came home and I ran to tell him, "Harry ___!" and he said, "You are writing this story, aren't you?" He thinks I am completely crazy now. Oh well.

I have to be evil. I have resolved to get my insane journal account set up before I post anymore. I have this chapter and 26 ready to post (changed 27 recently so waiting a bit before I post it to make sure it is final) I'm not sure if I should wait to post 26 till after I finish with the IJ mess or post it now. I had a dream last night that I took polyjuice potion to turn into a guy so that I could write the masturbation scenes in my fic more realistically. It was one of the most interesting dreams I've ever had. I described it in detail to one of my guy friends and apparently it was fairly realistic to how it actually feels.

I know I said that I'd slow down my writing but I can't help myself. :x I've been sending sections to my beta rather than whole chapters in justification for my inability to stop writing forward at such speed. I'm lucky to have a beta who gets back to me so quickly.

I also read the 'Tea Series' today. I know I said I wasn't going to read any fanfiction but I have no self restraint (it's terrible). The first couple of chapters were way too lovey dovey and I couldn't get through them so I skipped ahead to the first real sex scene and read from there. An interesting AU.
